Day 1 - Arrival Day: TAORMINA

Arrive in Sicily where you will be met and transferred from Catania Airport to the luxurious Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea located on the Bay of Mazzaro for a one-night stay. Tonight we enjoy a cocktail reception and welcome dinner in the elegant surroundings of the hotel.

You may consider extending your stay in Taormina with a few additional nights to explore Taormina and the rest of Sicily.

Day 2 - TAORMINA TO BARI

This morning we begin our rail journey on board the Golden Eagle Danube Express as we leave Taormina and cross to the Italian mainland on one of the very few ‘train ferries’ in the world.

From here we traverse the scenic coastal line across southern Italy arriving in the Adriatic port of Bari in time for dinner in its beautiful old town, Barivecchia.

Day 3 - SAN MARINO

San Marino is a mountainous micro-state surrounded by north-central Italy. Among the world’s oldest republics, it retains much of its historic architecture. On the slopes of Monte Titano sits the capital, also called San Marino, known for its medieval walled Old Town and narrow cobblestone streets. The Three Towers, castle-like citadels dating to the 11th century, sit atop Titano’s neighbouring peaks.

Lunch will be served here and will feature the country’s famous Torta Tre Monti or ‘Cake of the Three Towers’.

Day 4 - LJUBLJANA

This morning, we cross the border into Slovenia and enjoy a visit to the beautiful capital city of Ljubljana, offering a delightful combination of ancient architecture and a youthful culture. Whilst here, we visit Preseren Square, Three Bridges and Dragon Bridge.

We return to the Golden Eagle Danube Express for lunch as we begin the final part of the journey across Slovenia to the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

Enjoy a Farewell Dinner on board as we arrive late evening into Budapest and stay overnight at the Budapest Railway Park and Museum. 

Day 5 - BUDAPEST

This morning we wake at the Budapest Railway Park and Museum and enjoy our final breakfast on board.
